What truly exists could be a point of debate for philosophers but for an artist it is a point of immense possibility. An artist’s eyes never stop seeing something behind the wall, so where vision stops, imagination begins to find what lies beyond the unseen and the uncognizable. Art created on the canvas of Amit Kalla exudes a similar indomitable passion of endless creative imagination to search beyond the visible and mundane meaningful world. “I think when I was growing up as a kid in Jaipur, I experienced that in all childhood activities, everything was directionless, but I realized later that even with directionlessness, there was a sequence and that sequence was decided by the inherent constant passion to touch every experience possible in the world without understanding and knowing that incompleteness is a social sin”. In this realization of Amit Kalla the absence of the painful guilt of incompleteness shows the possibility of a new vocabulary which he himself materializes very well in his work. Kalla tries to indicate that there is a strong completeness even in incompleteness and that comes with sense of continuity. Through the three dimensional forms on his canvas he tries to create this continuity where vision finds the possibility of a new truth enveloped in illusion. His thick strokes go in nonlinear fashion creating the possibility to see endless manifestations of the human bond with an infinite cosmos. ”I believe in the transmigration of soul and previous lives. We share a strong bond with nature and thus we share the elements of eternity, which people call by different names like cosmic energy which is surrounded by the wave of constant creation and transformation”. His canvas is a sizzling surface of countless broad strokes with a prominence of free flow in a prismatic manner exhibiting a major form of splitting and dissolving of light, floating in colors.
Amit Kalla was born in Jaipur a beautiful desert town in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Amit holds a Masters in Art and Aesthetics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi & studied Art History from the National Museum Institute specializing in ancient Indian Art (Iconography). Presently, Amit is researching Bhakti Literature and the artistic notions of Rajasthan and widely observing children’s responses on art mediums, while working as a freelance artist and writer.
Amit has participated in Art Singapore, OZ Asia Festival Australia and International Writer’s Meet UAE. His poems and drawings are widely published in many contemporary Indian literary journals and magazines.
