Through his work Parvez wants to reflect nature’s poetic endeavor; to keep harmony of color and shape in its vast and infinite composition. While describing his first encounter with color he reminisces about his childhood days when he used to go to school crossing the Khan River. “The bright shadow of light in the water always mesmerized me, swimming kids and small elevated cenotaph domes hanging in the horizon gripped my imagination for a long time”. This delicate image of Parvez’s childhood memories found their place on his canvas where colors in their formless flow show the poetic relationship between him and the unchanging core of nature in an attempt to cure the anomaly of momentariness and the trap of nostalgia and to recognize that the true form is formlessness. Parvez quotes the Islamic concept of Sirat-Ul-Mustaqim an Arabic term for the path of righteousness. This right path he believes appears in his work as a straight line. In the human world this right path is clouded by illusion like the unfathomable dark colors. But beneath this unfathomable illusion you can find what is right. And to Parvez righteousness is always expressed in the harmony of colors in nature’s composition.
Born and raised in Indore, Parvez was never encouraged to become an artist. “But there was something in colors and drawing which always fascinated me like an unknown passion of a child. I use to help my elder brothers and sisters in making diagrams and figures for their botany and Zoology practical notebooks” he says in an innocent tone. Parvez got enrolled for science in a college in Indore. “One day my college science teacher and I decided to join an art college, although my teacher was not able to pursue it further but I completed that course and that initiated my artistic career”. During his initial years Parvez was busy in doing landscapes. But gradually he moved towards abstraction. “There was a tension in the figurative nature of the landscape, I always used to feel the pain of unresolved creativity”. This phase finally transformed into abstract forms and multiple layers of colors took the central place in his canvas. When questioned about his selection of colors he says “my colors are all Indian bright and absorbing according to the tradition of this country”. In Parvez’s work one can easily find the Islamic concept of formlessness and one supreme truth. “I am a person of faith and I try to bring the same thing in my work also”.
Parvez lives and works in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. His work is constantly displayed in national and international art shows and galleries. Over time his work has come to be recognized by eminent artists like S. H. Raza who says that “in Parvez’s work one can see a straight white line crossing a red color space like a musical note in a calm symphony”.
